DLC Arbor is a prescription-based tree service company, which means a tree diagnosis by our arborist defines all work performed. Our arborist generates a quotation, and the job begins upon customer approval. Our customers benefit because all tree service work completed follows tree industry-accepted best practices. We do not propose any unnecessary tree service work beyond our arborist’s diagnosis.

Custom Tree Pruning

Storms are unfairly blamed for mechanical damage, while a better definition would be weak-tree-damage. DLC Arbor’s custom pruning removes defects and erratic growth by promoting a single, dominant central trunk to the top of the tree with smaller, evenly spaced branches throughout the crown. We meet or exceed the International Society of Arboriculture Pruning Best Management Practices and American National Standards Institute A300 Pruning Standards. DLC is unique among tree service companies by utilizing these industry guidelines, which allows DLC to deliver excellent results and customer satisfaction.

Tree Health Care

DLC Arbor takes the same prescription-based approach to plant health care as we do with tree services. And, rest assured, DLC Arbor does not offer annual programs that include multiple applications for pests and nutritional deficiencies that do not exist that are a waste of customers’ money and lead to excessive chemicals injected into the environment. Sometimes only one application is all that is required. Click here for more information about tree insect control.

The biggest tree insect issue facing Denver metro area homeowners with Ash trees is the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The EAB arrived in Colorado in 2013 and is slowly spreading across the Front Range. The jewel-colored beetle arrived in Arvada in 2020. Arvada is only about seven miles from Denver. Since most of the damage this insect inflicts is under the bark of Ash trees, it is usually too late to save the tree when adult beetles emerge. So, the best approach to keep Ash trees safe is to treat them before the insect arrives in Denver. Our Master Arborist will be glad to discuss managing the Ash on your property and your EAB treatment options.

Current Denver Tree Issues

Winter Kill From Polar Plunges

In October 2019, Denver experienced two polar plunges in October. Many trees had not hardened-off yet (the process of preparing for freezing temperatures) and some may have freeze damage. When this happened in November 2015, the trees most affected were Plum, Cherry, Peach, and Siberian Elms. The trees that froze don’t show any signs during the winter and damage becomes apparent the next spring only after the tree was supposed to leaf-out.

Fire Blight Treatment

DLC Arbor is a leader in new and more effective approaches to Fire Blight. We base our treatments on years of experience, the pathology of Fire Blight, and tree biology. Homeowners with Apple or Pear trees should us to discuss their treatment options.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB)

Believe it or not, Denver Metro Area has an estimated 1.45 million Ash Trees. EAB devastates Ash since the trees have no resistance to the insect. In 2019, the EAB moved out if the federal quarantine area in Boulder County and is on the move. The effort to save the Ash in our City is staggering, and Denver started its Be A Smart Ash program to address this problem. Denver Forestry treats most city-owned trees and homeowner are responsible for Ash on their property, so please contact us to discuss your treatment options.
